Lakes Course at Blue Canyon: A Hidden Gem Emerges
Often overshadowed by its renowned sibling, the Canyon Course, the Lakes Course at Blue Canyon Country Club has carved its own niche as a challenging yet rewarding golfing experience. Upgraded TifEagle greens and strategically placed bunkers add bite to the course, while dramatic scenery featuring lakes and canyons provides a breathtaking backdrop.
The course starts easy but quickly ramps up the challenge. After the opening hole, a demanding approach shot awaits over water, followed by a carry over water on the par-3 2nd. The dogleg par-3 3rd demands a precise tee shot to avoid a massive canyon. Water hazards and canyons become recurring themes throughout the front nine, punishing errant shots but offering a fair challenge for those who can stay focused.
The back nine continues to test your skills. The par-5 10th requires a strategic approach over water and a carefully calculated uphill shot to a fast green. While the par-4 11th offers birdie potential, numerous trees can block your path if you fall short. The long par-4 14th features a treacherous three-tiered green, making two-putting a feat.
The 15th offers another birdie chance, while the uphill dogleg par-16th rewards a well-placed tee shot. The par-3 17th might seem easy, but tricky pin placements can lead to trouble.
The course’s crown jewel is arguably the final hole. A large tree marks the beginning of a vast canyon splitting the fairway. The conventional route goes right, leaving a long approach over the canyon. However, a daring golfer can attempt the narrower left side, offering a shorter second shot but with a much higher risk. Whichever path you choose, reaching the green in two on this hole deserves a round of applause.
Despite slightly dated locker rooms, the Lakes Course offers excellent facilities. The clubhouse features a restaurant overlooking the Canyon Course and a well-stocked pro shop. While on-site accommodation exists, the limited nightlife options might make staying elsewhere more desirable.
Overall, the Lakes Course at Blue Canyon Country Club is a must-play for any Thailand golf holiday. Its challenging layout, stunning scenery, and exceptional facilities make it a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.
