Robert Trent Jones Jr. Design, A Strategic Links-Style Challenge in Pattaya
Eastern Star Country Club & Resort, a Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed course nestled near the Gulf of Thailand, offers golfers in Pattaya a unique and strategic links-style experience. This scenic course, known for its wide fairways, water hazards, and abundance of coconut palms, provides a challenging yet enjoyable round for golfers of all skill levels.
Eastern Star Country Club & Resort features a classic links-style layout with gently undulating fairways and slightly elevated greens. The course boasts wide fairways, making it forgiving off the tee, but strategically placed bunkers (65 in total) and water hazards (11 lakes) come into play as you approach the green. Hundreds of mature coconut palms and mango trees line the fairways, adding a touch of local character to the links-style design.
Eastern Star Country Club & Resort offers a good mix of challenge and enjoyment for golfers of all abilities. The wide fairways are forgiving for beginners, while the strategically placed hazards and water features demand thoughtful shot placement from more experienced players. Numerous doglegs require good course management and precise positioning to score well. The cooling sea breeze, a constant presence due to the course’s proximity to the Gulf of Thailand, can add an extra layer of challenge by affecting shot trajectory.
Signature Holes
- The par-3 13th is a true signature hole, requiring an accurate tee shot over water to a green guarded by a deep bunker on one side and thick rough on the other.
- The par-5 4th is another noteworthy hole, with a narrow landing area and water hazards lining the left side of the fairway.
Eastern Star Country Club & Resort offers some unusual and playful features, such as a hedge sculpted in the shape of the FA Cup positioned right in the middle of the fairway on the 2nd hole.
While the changing rooms and restaurant may not be top-of-the-line, Eastern Star provides excellent value for money. The course is conveniently located next to a resort offering accommodation options. Practice facilities include a driving range and swimming pool.
