Phuket Country Club
Steeped in history as the first golf course built in Phuket back in 1989
Phuket Country Club offers a delightful 18-hole experience amidst a captivating landscape. Rolling hills, dramatic limestone cliffs, and landscaped forests create a scenic backdrop for your game. While the course itself might not be the longest by modern standards, clocking in at just over 6,484 yards from the back tees, it cleverly compensates with strategic layouts and undulating fairways that will keep all skill levels engaged. The charm of Phuket Country Club lies in its ability to offer a fair challenge without being overly punishing for high handicappers.
Get ready for an unforgettable start to your round. The signature first hole presents a daunting yet thrilling challenge. A nerve-wracking tee shot demands accuracy as you launch the ball over a ravine to reach a strategic position. But hold on, because your second shot is blind! The following hole, a downhill par-3, adds another layer of difficulty with swirling winds that can easily disrupt your club selection. Don’t get discouraged – these initial hurdles are just a taste of the exciting variety that awaits you throughout the course.
The front nine continues to test your mettle with a series of undulating holes. You’ll encounter a challenging par-4 with the threat of out-of-bounds lurking, a tough par-3 guarded by water on the left, and a narrow landing area on the 6th that demands pinpoint accuracy from the tee. The 7th hole features a three-tiered green surrounded by bunkers, while the long par-4 8th requires a deft touch on your long approach to hold the elevated green. The front nine concludes with a captivating par-5, where a well-placed tee shot can potentially get you there in two, but a miscue can have severe consequences.
The back nine transitions to a flatter and more open layout, offering a reprieve from the initial drama. However, water hazards come into play starting at the 10th, the most iconic hole in Phuket. This par-5 presents a daring risk-reward opportunity. The conventional route involves three shots that flirt with the massive lake, but a daring golfer can attempt a shortcut by hitting straight across the water from the tee box in two, potentially reaching the green in one! While the rest of the back nine offers a mix of straightforward and challenging holes, be prepared for water hazards, narrow fairways, and strategically placed bunkers to keep you on your toes.
To complete your Phuket Country Club experience, take advantage of the recently renovated changing rooms, considered some of the best in Phuket. The clubhouse boasts one of the largest and most well-stocked pro-shops on the island, and an expansive practice area allows you to warm up your swing or try out new clubs before your round. After conquering the course, unwind and enjoy a well-earned meal at the reasonably priced restaurant – the perfect way to end a memorable day of golf in paradise.
