Katathong Golf Resort & Spa
A Hole in One with History, Katathong Golf Resort & Spa
Nestled in a scenic valley near Phang Nga National Parks, Katathong Golf Resort & Spa offers a unique golfing experience. This 18-hole course, carved from a former 15th-century tin mine, boasts stunning mountain views and remnants of its mining past scattered throughout the fairways.
The course winds through natural waterfalls, streams, and undulating hills, demanding precise shot placement over long distances. Narrow fairways reward accuracy, while up-and-down par-3s with significant elevation changes add challenge.
Standout holes include the par-5 4th, a longish hazard-laden challenge, and the signature par-3 10th, a daring island green shot from an elevated tee. The scenic par-16 offers a breathtaking tee shot across an old tin mine, followed by a demanding approach to a partially obscured green.
Practice facilities, including putting and chipping areas, are available. While the course is walkable, carts are mandatory due to the hot climate. The clubhouse, designed in local Sino-Portuguese style, features mining memorabilia and an on-site restaurant.
Beyond golf, a large resort and meditation center with a giant red sandstone Buddha statue provide a unique cultural experience.
Katathong Golf Resort & Spa is ideal for golfers staying in Khao Lak, Krabi, or Phang Nga. For those in Phuket, the scenic beauty and historical charm make it a worthwhile detour from the usual courses.
